Frenchmens Creek is located in western Shawnee, Kansas on the Southwest Corner of 47th and Monticello. The homeowners association comprises of 121 homes. The subdivision’s development began in 1991 and was concluded in 1998. We are located in the boundaries of the Desoto School District, with Riverview Elementary, Mill Creek Middle and Mill Valley High School as our primary public schools.
Frenchmens Creek was the third subdivision developed in Monticello/Johnson Drive region, with Woodsonia and Woodland Park preceding ours. During the development of our new community, new subdivisions began development each year. Fortunately, the developers of Frenchmens Creek witnessed the growth and made a wise decision to donote a portion of the homeowners “common areas” to the City of Shawnee to preserve a piece of the wilderness. Today, the newly created Garrett Park completely surrounds the southern and western boundaries of the Frenchmens Creek homeowners.
Garrett Park, which is approximately 34 acres in size, contains a walking path from end to end with access points at 47th Street (with parking), Anderson (Oakmont), 49th Terrace (Oakmont) and Monticello/49th Street. The old Garrett House is the centerpiece of the park and can be accessed from 47th Street (west of Monticello). It contains a full size soccer field, basketball court, baseball diamond, 2 playground areas and 2 shelter houses.
